The turquoise does not come from dissolved minerals but from rock flour — particles the glacier grinds off the bedrock. They stay suspended in the water and scatter short-wave light back. When the glacier goes, the colour goes with it.Die türkise Färbung stammt nicht von gelöstem Mineral, sondern von Gesteinsmehl — Partikeln, die der Gletscher beim Schleifen des Untergrunds erzeugt. Sie schweben in der Wassersäule und streuen kurzwelliges Licht zurück. Verschwindet der Gletscher, verschwindet auch die Farbe.

The path leads towards a cirque where the glacier ends. The pale debris field in front of it is moraine — material the ice carried and dropped. Where it lies bare today, there was ice a few decades ago.Der Weg führt auf ein Kar zu, in dem der Gletscher endet.
